"The Board of Directors of the Institute are very pleased to award the 2007 IPP Special Recognition Award to a person who served her time as a Pay Officer before rising rapidly through the organisational ranks to running Compensation and Benefits for WHSmith. "Her exposure to and her insights about the real life challenges of practical payroll with a major retail organisation, coupled with her natural inclination to analyse and offer practical solutions, made her an ideal candidate to assist the then Inland Revenue as a valued consultation partner. "As a long standing member of this Institute, she saw the opportunity and benefit of getting a formal arrangement between the government and the Institute, as a payroll membership organisation. It was her advice and guidance that placed the building blocks for what was to become our Policy and Research Department. Working with individuals such as Kate Upcraft and latterly Karen Thompson, she helped the Institute create strong links and effective working practices, and it is a tribute to her mentoring and astute guidance that we now have such a good relationship with Her Majesty's Government. "She was a non executive director of this organisation for a number of years, and was part of the Board that helped the transition into the institute of today. She was indeed our chair from 2001 to 2003, and was dedicated herself to working for the benefit of the membership, with special interests in both in the policy and research area, and the governance issues of the Board. "She has been recognised by different organisations in the past for her services to payroll, and the Board of IPP now feel it was important that we should also show our appreciation of all she has done for the payroll profession."
